Book Borrowing Project Volunteers Needed

The General Population Book Borrowing Project and the Secure Unit Borrowing Project are seeking new volunteers! We are in great need of at least a few more volunteers for each program to keep them running smoothly. Help get much needed library material to incarcerated women with limited access. It’s fun, and can be a very fullfilling experience.

General Population Borrowing Project

Volunteers pick up material from the Woodcroft Edmonton Public Library, deliver items to the library in the General Population unit of the EIFW , socialize with the women, take requests for the next visit and return items to Woodcroft library. Volunteers work in pairs.

Requirments of volunteers: Commit to a minimum of two visits in a six month period. It is important that you can attend all visits that you sign up for;       Complete required police checks and EIFW volunteer training.

This is a fun visit that provides a much needed and appreciated service to the women of the EIFW.

Secure Unit Borrowing Project

Volunteers pick up material from the Woodcroft Edmonton Public Library, deliver items to the Maximum Security  Unit of the EIFW , socialize with the women, take requests for the next visit and return items to Woodcroft library. Volunteers work in pairs.

Visits occur the second Saturday of the month between 1pm and 4pm.

Requirements of volunteers:

·         Have previous experience working at the EIFW in a volunteer capacity and feel comfortable in a corrections environment.

·         Commit to a minimum of two visits in a six month period. It is important that you can attend all visits that you sign up for.

The Maximum Security Unit Borrowing Project is an important service to the women in maximum security at the EIFW. Conditions in the unit can be  intense, as the environment is tightly controlled. Volunteers who have experience working at the EIFW or a similar corrections institute are encouraged to volunteer for this much needed service.
